Up All Night

I couldn’t sleep on our first night in Cusco. Sure, I was excited about visiting Machu Picchu the next day.

But I think I had too many coca drinks.

When we arrived in Cusco, I had a big headache. It felt like my head was floating away from my body. I think it was the beginning of altitude sickness.

Our lobby clerk at Del Prado Inn gave us a cup of coca tea when we checked in. She also recommended eating a light meal with soup.

The tea helped. My head felt like it was back on my body.

Mussel soup also helped. We found Limo next to our hotel off Plaza de Armas.

Limo also introduced me to Coca Sours. They’re made with coca-infused pisco. These cocktails kept the headaches away.

They also kept me up all night long. The club music blaring next to the hotel didn’t help.

Still, I wanted to take back some coca tea to the States. I couldn’t find any when we went back to Lima.

Damn shame.
