Eating my way thru SoCal

I went back for seconds. I always do that when it comes to Christmas lunch/dinner/snacks at my Ninang’s house in SoCal.
ChristmasDay (1)
It’s not a great spread for vegans/vegetarians, but it hits my happy spots for savory, meaty goodness.

My Ninong's Dinuguan
I also tried to figure out how to make my Ninong’s Dinuguan. I just need to find a decent butcher near my little house in Fremont.

We end up searching for my tasty treats after we give our tummies a rest from all that eating. SoCal is home to so many amazing food spots and I would be sad if I skipped out on eating out.

Mullholland Drive Hot Dog @ Pinks Hot Dogs
I would have missed my new favorite spot for hot dogs in LA if I decided to stay home!

Pink’s Hot Dogs is an LA icon It’s a tourist trap for people who want to follow in the footsteps of their favorite movie stars. It’s a haven for bar hoppers who need something hearty to soak up the hipster cocktails. It’s heaven for people who love a good hot dog. I fell in love with the Mullholland Drive Hot Dog, smothered with nacho cheese, topped with crispy bacon and sauteed mushrooms. It’s messy eating experience and I’m totally fine with that. Really. Slightly spicy cheese, juicy’shrooms and bacon bites mixed up with bites of that hot dog all add up to a yummy good time in my mouth.

Umami Burger!
Umami Burger made my mouth water. We hit the North Cahuenga Blvd. location in March, after a Kansas basketball watch party at the Capitol City Sports Grill. The truffle burger rocked my world after a sad game for Jayhawk fans.

Game Day breakfast: Fresh oysters at the Hollywood Farmers Market.

mark-kogi
On that trip, I wanted to try the Kogi Korean BBQ truck. We found it in Rowland Heights and our timing was perfect. We told folks we came all the way down from the Bay Area to try this place! Other people in line said they came up from San Diego or Arizona and other out-of-town locations. Still, I was happy we had the magic sign to hold our spot in the queue.

Kogi's Kimchi Quesadilla
I had no idea that kimchi and cheese would work so well, wedged into a toasted tortilla. It was one of my favorite dishes from the truck and totally worth the wait in line.
