Between Seasons

Waking up to another grey morning in the Bay Area. This weather makes me want to live in sweats, camp out in front of the TV and have a pot simmering on the stove with meat, broth and vegetables.

I dream about sunny days in front of the grill.

My hubby picked up this fancy grilling tray from Sur la Table. We sliced up the portobello mushrooms and red peppers. We added salt, pepper and garlic olive oil to the vegetables. We let everything cook in the metal tray on top of the grill. The vegetables came out tender, with some nice smoky char on the edges.

I found simple grilling recipe for mustard-covered steak from the New York Times.

We covered the steak in dijon mustard. Tossed it in a plastic baggie to make sure the meat was totally smothered in the sauce. Then we grilled it.

Yum! No salt or pepper needed. The steak packed a lot of flavor from the mustard and the char from the grill.

I added crispy shallots to the steak.

Rain, rain…
You never know with Bay Area weather. We may have a few more sunny days in our forecast before the cold season begins.
