Download episode 4 of In My Belly. Feel free to pair my food podcast from Monterey Bay with hot coffee and lemon juice. Squeeze the lemon juice over those huge oysters on the half shell.
In August, we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary in Monterey Bay.
On our first night, we indulged in couples pampering at the Spa by the Bay and 5-star cuisine at Peppoli in Pebble Beach.
I woke up early the next morning to work on my St. Petersburg lectures. I worked up an appetite and the Liberty Fish Company delivered.
Our simple breakfast covered clam chowder, fresh oysters and smoked salmon sandwiches. Our bill added up to $20, which is great deal on fresh seafood.
So – what’s your favorite breakfast food when you’re on vacation?
Also, enjoy some podcast extras on Monterey Bay.
- Liberty Fish Company: Folks, this is not about fine dining. It’s about an affordable meal with a fantastic view. Expect plastic spoons and fresh seafood. Sometimes, the cook wants a second opinion on his ceviche and I was happy to sample his fish. Yum!
- Peppoli at Pebble Beach: Totally worth splurging on this classy Italian restaurant flanked by a world-class golf course and the Pacific Ocean. The service is first class, the playlist includes Sinatra and the food is heaven.
- Cafe Rustica: One of my favorite food spots in Carmel Valley. With escargot, sand dabs and other tasty dishes, it’s the perfect ending to a day of wine tasting. Many wine tasting rooms recommend this cafe for good local food and friendly service.
- Fish Hopper: It’s a Cannery Row icon and it’s been around forever. Thanks to an outdoor food stand tempting people with clam chowder samples, it’s also one of the most crowded food spots in the area. Sometimes I feel like I’m eating inside a kindergarten classroom. However, if you mention Yelp, you can score free appetizers.
